CHARACTER LIST
The Herdmans: “The Bad Kids” – participate in multiple ensemble songs
Ralph Herdman (M) – the oldest and the coolest. The enforcer. Plays Joseph in the Pageant
Imogene Herdman (F) – the leader of the Herdmans. Loud, bossy, and crafty. Plays Mary in the Pageant
Leroy Herdman (M/F) - very confident in the muscle department. Plays Wise Man in the Pageant
Claude Herdman (M/F) - Scrappy and smart. Plays Wise Man in the Pageant
Ollie Herdman (M/F) - a bit naïve, follows the older boys’ leads. Plays Wise Man in the Pageant
Gladys Herdman (F) – little but fierce. Nothing scares Gladys. Plays Angel in the Pageant
The “Good Kids” – participate in multiple ensemble songs
Alice Wendleken (F) – know-it-all, thinks she’s perfect.
Beth Bradley (F) – Grace and Bob’s daughter. Charlie’s older sister. Honest and kind.
Ivy Reed (F) – Beth’s earnest friend who is sometimes a goody-goody. Pageant Narrator.
Charlie Bradley (M) – Grace and Bob’s son. Typical kid brother. Says what he thinks.
Elmer Hopkins (F/M) – Reverend’s son, so he has to behave and be nice.
Teddy Shoemaker (F/M) – Wimpy kid with glasses, asks too many questions.
Will cast additional ensemble “good kids” as shepherds/angels in the pageant and kids in the schoolyard
“ADULT” ROLES (will likely be cast with high schoolers)
Grace Bradley (F): Sweet, good-humored, slightly frazzled mom ACTING, A BIT OF SINGING
Bob Bradley (M): Easygoing dad, wry sense of humor ACTING, MINIMAL SINGING
Reverend Hopkins (M/F): Occasionally befuddled, always well-meaning ACTING, NON-SINGING ROLE
Helen Armstrong (F): Organized steamroller; always in charge ACTING, NON-SINGING ROLE
Church Ladies (F) Luanne, Betty, Connie – each have ensemble singing roles and spoken dialog. Will be aged up to elderly. Looking for comedic actresses.
MAY cast additional ensemble church patrons, pageant goers
